Salaam Cup weekend: not so peaceful
I was offered a spot on the Montréal team for the Salaam Cup, a country-wide Muslim hockey tournament held in Toronto, just 2 days before the tourney.
It was difficult to decide if I wanted to go or not. Obviously, a chance to represent your city is exciting and doesn't come too often. However, playing in the tournament will mean dealing with the highly competetive and tough play once again, which I was expecting to avoid for at least a year.
After much debate with myself and those close to me, I finally decided that I will go.
The tournament was very well organized and very professional. The Salaam Cup actually exists... they have a beautiful trophy which looks a bit like the Calder Memorial Trophy, but taller. Some of the best Muslim ball-hockey players in Canada were present. Our team did a great job by finishing the round-robin 3-1-0. We won our quarter-finals game (against my cousin's team), but unfortunately lost in the semi-finals against the Mujahideen.
What sucks even more is that I got injured again. I fractured my fibula in my right leg when I collided with another player in a race for the ball.
I drive home the same night with the broken leg and went to work the next morning for a 9:30 AM meeting.
To make matters worse, Mehndi.com's harddrive failed at 9:00 PM that night, and my boss and I were up until 12:30 trying to get the site back up and running. We had to restore a backup from that morning and we lost 12 hours of data.
I'm going to be in crutches for the next two weeks, which means that I might have to go to the dredg concert like this. Hopefully I'll make a quick recovery though.
